CELPIP-General has 20 distinct task types across the four sections. This guide breaks down each one — what it tests, how it's timed, and how it's scored.
Pick a section to see every task type with examples and timing.
Practical Listening, conversations, daily-life information, news items, discussion, and viewpoints.
Correspondence, diagrams, information, and viewpoints — with varied question formats.
Email writing and Survey response — 150–200 words each, AI-graded on four rubric criteria.
Advice, personal experience, scene description, predictions, comparison, opinion, unusual situation, and unusual scene.
CELPIP scoring is rubric-based, not point-based. A Listening section question and a Speaking task are scored against very different criteria — knowing the rubric for each task type lets you target your weak spots instead of practicing blindly. Most test-takers gain a CLB level just by understanding what the graders are listening or reading for.
